BLOODLINES
My Great Grandfather Henryk survived the First World War and then became a policeman. He was arrested and taken away from his family when the Nazis invaded. His story runs parallel to my Grandfather’s and against all odds, survived the Second World War to reunite with his wife. Jerzy and Henryk did not meet again in person. It seems incredible that one person could experience so much, survive such adversity and put their life back together again. Henryk’s journey will be another story, but the determination to reconnect with his love and family needed writing about. As a touring musician, I often feel the need to get away and see the world. It is almost immediately followed by a powerful need to get back home to my family. I try to imagine what they must have felt being pulled away like that. I can’t.
