about

CHRYSALIS
I often try to imagine what it must have been like running across a war torn continent. To have no idea what to do and having no clue as to where your family might be. All of a sudden strangers help you. You stay with them. You end up fighting alongside them. At some point in that journey, something must change inside you. I’ve tried to think about is whether or not it would have been a singular moment or a drawn out process that turned Jerzy and so many others like him from a child into an adult and soldier before their time. By the time my Grandfather was my age he had already seen out the Second World War. There are particular moments in my life that I know changed me but I can’t really comprehend the things he and others must had to do to survive. Would there have been a short moment in time when Jerzy was both child and fighter? A duality all too common around the world.

lyrics

Father where on Earth am I?
Lost out in the dust and cold
Clad in someone else’s flag
And trying to find home
Child all alone again
Reload
Take all the time you need
Breath out
Stare down the sight
Aim true
Slowly pull
Let the round release
Bury
Childhood soldier raised to die
Holding onto joy and rage
Scared of what I will become
Broken and alone
Pray the name your mother gave you finds the mark
Buried deep into your back and home again right in the heart
Father do you see me know?
Rifle laid out in the snow
Waiting for a single shot
A kill to call my own
Child all alone again
Reload
Take all the time you need
Breath out
Stare down the sight
Aim true
Slowly pull
Let the round release
Bury
